Given 12 coins that look identical, with an odd coin either lighter or heavier than the rest, use a balance to weigh the coins three times to determine which is the odd coin and whether it is lighter or heavier than the rest.
I still remember my very first puzzle when I was a child. Here it is: how do you cut a watermelon, with 4 cuts, into 9 pieces and get 10 rinds? It was not a hard one. I especially loved the idea of having one piece of watermelon with two rinds!
